Climber's Guide to Ellery Lake Bowl

The first edition of the Ellery Bowl Guide introduced a host of previously undocumented short climbs scattered above and below the old Mining Road that runs due east out the granite-covered hillside from the Rhine Dollar Dam on Ellery Lake. This new completely revised and expanded second edition takes up where its predecessor left off and documents many more unfamiliar routes as part of a long-term effort to publish a comprehensive guide to the whole of Lee Vining Canyon. An added section describes the steep crack climbs found on Golden Rock in Ellery Bowl, home of the local classic “Speed of Life” (II 5.11b). For the first time, there are also directions about how to access the spectacular alpine Ellery Ridges shooting up the imposing south face of Lee Vining Canyon to the broad flat summit of Dana Plateau. In addition, several more sections are devoted to unfamiliar large rock formations along US 120 on the north side of Lee Vining Canyon, including The Sphinx, Pyramid and the north, middle and south Warren Towers.
